What is our trajectory?
A contemplative vfx sequence..that incorporates the After Effects techniques of masking, 2d movement tracking and 3d camera tracking, 3D positioning, particle generation, cc spherise effect, shifting channels, alpha mattes, green screen keying, blending modes, levels and animating text along a path.
These techniques were used to help composite and work alongside other digital footage or 3D elements so they were seamlessly integrated into the scene. The sequence contains 'choreography' and the forming/breaking apart of elements also.
My motivation for Human Race was to convey a cultural statement, and try and emulate the style and feel of a motion graphics shot like you'd see in science or nature documentaries, where text, 3D models, animation and compositing are used to accentuate and help visualize short sections of dialogue.
The footage was shot at Southern Cross Station in Melbourne using a Canon 700d mach II, the night/traffic/train/plane-landing lights used together in the final shot (as a whirling galaxy) were taken on my iphone, the 3D globe was created in Cinema 4D and the rest created and composited in After Effects.
The Lucasfilm footage was borrowed from Youtube (purely for non-commercial artistic purposes). Of all the philosophical quotes I had as possibilities for the end tag line…I thought Yoda had the best of all.
